Chicago Crime Map
A community-area view of where reported crime concentrates across Chicago, from the lakefront North Side to the South and West sides.
Heatmap
Reported crime across Chicago
The map renders Chicago Police Department incident reports, and the geography speaks for itself. North Side and lakefront areas such as Lincoln Park, Edison Park, and the Gold Coast tend to show lighter activity, while heavier clusters appear on parts of the West Side around Austin and West Garfield Park and on the South Side around Englewood. The downtown Loop reflects its dense daytime and commercial foot traffic.
Incident locations are approximate and reported to the block level. Use the map to compare community areas, not to judge a single address.
Denser clusters mean more reported incidents in that area; sparser zones see fewer. Because CPD geocodes to the block, read the map as a comparison of relative activity between community areas rather than a precise score for one address. Population density and commercial activity shape the counts alongside genuine risk.
